Hitendra Mehta

Hitendra Mehta is the Founder of Mehta & Associates, one of Central India’s most established multidisciplinary consultancy firms in Architecture, Urban Planning, Infrastructure Development, and Project Management. Since founding the firm in 1991, he has played a pivotal role in building Mehta & Associates into a trusted institution with a strong regional and national presence, supported by a team of over 150 specialised professionals.

An engineering graduate of 1987, Mr. Mehta brings over three decades of professional experience spanning urban planning, architecture, infrastructure development, real estate, public–private partnerships, and transaction advisory. His deep technical grounding, combined with practical, on-ground experience, has enabled him to advise governments, statutory authorities, and local bodies on complex planning, development, and policy-related matters.

Under his leadership, the operations of Mehta & Associates have expanded beyond Madhya Pradesh to include projects across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, and Delhi. His work covers a wide spectrum of sectors including urban development, housing and social infrastructure, urban transport, roads and highways, industrial townships, and large-scale public infrastructure projects.

Mr. Mehta has been entrusted with several key advisory and governance roles by the Government of Madhya Pradesh and other public institutions. These include his appointment as:

  • Board Member, Governing Board of Shri Govindram Seksaria Institute of Technology and Science (SGSITS), Indore, one of Madhya Pradesh’s premier engineering institutions
  • Member, Review Committee for Indore Development Plan – 2021
  • Member, Review Committee for Bhumi Vikas Niyam, 2012, the statutory development control and building regulation framework for Madhya Pradesh
  • Member, Advisory Committee for the Draft Real Estate Bill, among several other committees constituted by the State Government and Government of India

In addition to his public sector engagements, Mr. Mehta has been actively associated with numerous professional and technical bodies. He holds leadership or membership positions with organisations including the Institution of Engineers (India), Indian Building Congress, Indian Geotechnical Society, Indian Structural Association, Indian Roads Congress, Consultancy Engineers Association of India, All India Housing Development Association, and INTACH, New Delhi, among others.

His professional contributions and leadership in the fields of planning, design, and infrastructure development have been recognised in various books, technical publications, and professional forums. Known for his balanced perspective and ethical approach, Mr. Mehta continues to guide the firm’s strategic direction while mentoring the next generation of professionals within the organisation.

Jitendra Mehta

Jitendra Mehta is an eminent architect and urbanist of Central India, with over 25 years of professional experience in architecture, urban design, and planning. A graduate of 1993—having topped his university—he joined Mehta & Associates in 1995 and has since played a defining role in shaping the firm’s architectural and urban design practice.

 

With a strong commitment to sustainable development, Mr. Mehta has been a consistent advocate for green architecture and its practical integration into architectural design and urban planning. His work reflects a thoughtful balance between design excellence, environmental responsibility, and contextual relevance—principles that continue to guide the firm’s design philosophy.

Mr. Mehta has held several prominent leadership positions within national and international professional bodies. He was elected as a National Council Member of the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) for the term 2015–2019 and previously served as Chairman of the IIA – Madhya Pradesh Chapter (2011–2015). He has also been a member of the International Affairs Board of IIA, actively contributing to professional exchange and global engagement.

At the international level, Mr.. Mehta served as the Official Representative of ARCASIA’s Committee on Young Architects (ACYA) from 2012 to 2014, strengthening international collaboration and professional dialogue across Asia. His efforts have significantly enhanced global exposure and institutional relationships for Indian architects.

Currently, Mr. Mehta serves as the Chairman of the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) – Indore Centre, where he actively promotes sustainability-driven design practices and green building certification frameworks. He is also a member of the Council of the Indian Institute of Architects, the Executive Council of the Indian Institute of Interior Designers, and professional bodies such as the Indian Institute of Lighting Engineers, among others.

In addition to professional practice, Mr. Mehta has been deeply engaged in academic and capacity-building initiatives. He has conducted numerous Professional Development Programs (PDPs) for practicing architects and has led motivational and educational initiatives for students of architecture—fostering stronger collaboration between academia and professional practice. He has also served as a Visiting Lecturer at the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, ranked among the top architecture schools in the United States.

Mr. Mehta’s contributions have been recognised through several prestigious awards. His accolades include the Excellence in Architecture Award (2011) for the Pipliyapala Lakefront
Development and Indian Concrete Institute (ICI) Awards for three consecutive years (2009–2011). He also received IIA Centenary Year (1917–2017) Appreciation Awards for his contributions to the ARCASIA Forum Organising Committee and the Sports & Cultural Committee, including his role in successfully curating and publishing the ARCASIA Awards Book.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Jitendra Mehta has been involved in the planning, design, and delivery of numerous award-winning and internationally recognised projects. His leadership continues to strengthen Mehta & Associates’ design excellence, sustainability ethos, and global professional engagement.
